PM Modi to Represent India at High-Level UNGA Session in September

New York, United Nations: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to participate in the high-level United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session and deliver his address on September 26, 2025, as per the preliminary programme.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the UN, with the General Assembly’s theme: “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights.” A commemorative high-level meeting will be held on September 22 to mark the milestone, followed by the regular high-level sessions.

Notable Leaders at the Session

The high-level session will feature addresses from global leaders:

  • Brazil: President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (first address as per tradition)
  • USA: President Donald Trump
  • India: PM Narendra Modi (September 26, 9 a.m. local time / 6:30 p.m. IST)
  • Other notable participants: PMs Benjamin Netanyahu (Israel), Li Qiang (China), Keir Starmer (UK), Shehbaz Sharif (Pakistan), K.P. Sharma Oli (Nepal), Tshering Tobgay (Bhutan), and Muhammad Yunus (Bangladesh, Chief Advisor to caretaker government)

Note: Presidents Vladimir Putin (Russia) and Xi Jinping (China) will not be attending this year, while leaders like Volodymyr Zelensky (Ukraine), Recep Tayyip Erdogan (Turkey), and Masoud Pezeshkian (Iran) are confirmed speakers.

PM Modi’s Track Record at UNGA

This year’s address will be PM Modi’s seventh speech at the UNGA high-level session, continuing his active engagement in global diplomacy and India’s contribution to international peace, development, and human rights initiatives.
